October 2012

From the Pro
Well the summer rush came to an abrupt end when school started up again. It is very slow on the weekdays right now, so if you have the chance, come and take advantage of the limited course use. You can play a round at lightning pace right at the moment!! Hopefully we will still have our busy weekends and the club will get some revenue from the outside play.

Last weekend we held the Men’s Senior Partnership tournament. As usual, the course was in great condition, and we had 31 teams entered (almost double last year’s total). Seems that people are enjoying coming out for tournaments here!!! Our own members did very well in this one. Here’s how some of our own members fared:

Championship Flight:

1st Lynn Johnston and Don Cofer

First Flight:

2nd Travis Loe and Clarence Vaughn

Second Flight:

1st Rick Dabney and Stan Price

2nd Cleve Gustin and Craig Curlee

3rd Dick Arche and Roger Senter

Third Flight:

1st Charlie McClure and Ronnie Reynolds

3rd Pete Clay and Red Higginbotham

Thanks to all for your participation and congratulations on your outstanding play!!! We still have some tournaments coming up for you to play in before it gets too cold!! On October 6th and 7th we will have the Ryder Cup. Please call and put your name in for this one, this is a very fun event to play in!! The following week on the 13th we have the 2nd annual backwards tournament. Very very fun format and quite a strange way to play your course!! Haha. The last event of the year is the very next day on the 14th, and that is the 19 man shootout. Sign-ups for all these events are currently being taken in the pro shop. Call or stop by and reserve your spot in one or all of these events!!

As usual, if there is anything you would like to have from the golf shop but we don’t have it in stock for you, please let us know and most likely we can get it ordered up for you. Usually special orders take no more than 2 weeks, and our prices in the shop are better than you will find pretty much everywhere. So stop on by and get yourself something nice!!

Spetember 2012

From the President
Well, what a great summer we had at Canyon Country Club. The kids are all getting back in school, families are settling back into routine and fine fall weather will be coming in soon. The fall is always a great time to enjoy the golf course. Hope you all can come on out and play.

We had a great turn-out for the Club Championship tournament and I think everyone had a good time. Congratulations to Dan Luther who won the Championship Flight, Roger Senter, winner of the 2nd Flight, Red Higginbotham won the 3rd Flight and Robin Myers, who won the 4th Flight. In the Women’s division, Kelli Mooring won the Championship and Trish Giocamazzi won the net side. If you have never played in the shoot-out during the Championship weekend you have missed a great time. The Shoot-out was won by the team of Dan Luther (what a shot on #6) Deanna Sowers, Clarence Vaughn and Josh Neese. The course continues to be stressed by the lack of rain, but Mikel and Javier are doing a great job of keeping it looking and playing great. All of the dead trees, with the exception of those in the creeks, have been cut down. Johnny Vaughn did a good job of getting them down and has left some of the cut wood on the course if you would like to have some firewood. Contact Mikel or Clarence if you would like to pick some up. We will try to get more of the dead trees out of the creek area this winter.

Our chemical sprayer finally gave out on us last month and the board voted to replace it with a used sprayer that had been traded in to Toro. This was the best deal we could find and I think it will last us a long time.

Well it’s almost September already. This year has flown by!! The course has been extremely busy this summer with outside play, tournaments, and new members. It is nice to see all of the participation by members in tournaments this year!!! The Friday night scrambles are coming to a close here shortly, so if you want to play in any please call the golf shop and get signed up. The Super Scramble is scheduled for Sunday, September 16th at 2:00 shotgun. That means that the last scramble will be Friday the 14th. The Club Championship is happening this weekend, we have a nice turnout for this event. Thanks to all who have signed up and are supporting this event.

The Ladies held their annual Chaparral tournament on the 18th and 19th of August. There was a good turnout for this event with 24 teams playing. That was one team better than last years event!! Many of the club members played well and even won some money. Way to go Ladies!!!

There are a few events remaining this year to play in: On September 8th and 9th, we have the Robert C. Burton Memorial 3 Man Scramble tournament. This one usually attracts a good crowd, which means a better payout. If you want to sign up a team please call the golf shop and we will get you taken care of. Also in September is the 2 Man Senior Partnership on the 22nd and 23rd. Again sign up in the pro shop.

The pro shops very own Billy Pope had his first hole in one this month. He made it on hole #14 using a pitching wedge. The shot was witnessed by Garry Erdman and Craig Curlee. Excellent job Billy. I have been playing this game longer than you have been alive and you have more holes in one than I do!! Haha.

As always, please come by the pro shop and see if there is anything you can’t live without. And if you don’t see what you want, we can always order it for you!! Look forward to seeing you all out at the club very soon!!
