August 2013

From the Pro
Hello Members,
I hope you all are enjoying this warm weather we have been having and are able to get out and play some golf.  With the combination of the warmth and the rain the course is in excellent shape, and the greens are as good as I have seen them in my short time here so far.  Mikel and Javier are doing a great job keeping your course in such good shape!!

Well we had the Roadrunner tournament this past month, and some of our members fared pretty well.  Brito Valdez won the net side in both the regular and senior divisions, while Kyle Farmer was right behind him.  Jim Giacomazzi placed 5th in gross and Dana Wise placed 6th in gross.  Those players also did well in the seniors division, coming in 3rd and 4th.  The overall event was won by Tom Doughtie at 10 under par with rounds of 68-67-68.  Some excellent playing on his end!!  He won by 10 shots.  That’s the way to play a tournament.  I think I better get some pointers from him!! Haha.

Well there are some events happening next month as well.  We have the Club Championship on the 3rd and 4th of August.  If you have not signed up yet please do so in the shop.  There is the Ladies guest day on the 8th, and the Bucks and Does on the 24th and 25th.  Get yourselves signed up and come out and play some golf!!

As always, if there is something you need in the shop and I don’t have it, please let me know so I can get it for you.  Truthfully I need some input on what you would like to see in here.  It helps me to figure out what to order for the shop, so your ideas are greatly appreciated.   Hope you can make it out and look forward to seeing you all very soon!!

I hope everyone has enjoyed the pool.  It has been a great summer.  The pool will close on Saturday, August 24th for the season.

July 2013

From the President

Man it’s HOT!!!  Hope everyone is having fun and enjoying the summer weather.  Not much to report this month.  Everything is moving right along with tournaments, scrambles and the upcoming 4th of July holiday.

Special thanks this month to Courtney for helping us keep the pool and bar up and running.  These to parts of our club can really be a headache this time of year, but Courtney is doing an excellent job of keeping everything smooth.

Sorry to announce that Clarence Vaughn has decided to resign from the Board of Directors.  Clarence has been a really big factor in our ability to get the club back to financial stability and many parts of our physical plant in good shape. Clarence worked hard and I really appreciate it.   We will be looking for a new board member to take the rest of this year during the next meeting.

Remember that Friday Night Scrambles are going on and this is a great way to meet fellow members and have a good time.

From the Pro

Hello Everybody,

Well we just wrapped up the 2013 Double Couples Championship.  We ended up with 19 teams  (76 players), and all went well.   We received many compliments on how great the course is, especially the greens, so a big thanks to Mikel and Javier for all the hard work they do to keep your course in such great shape!!  The Championship Flight was won by the team of Jay and Lisa Held, and Chris and Whitney Purcell with a 25 under total.  Pretty good playing!!  Coming in Second in that same flight were Aaron and Emily Hunt and Eric and Allie Moore.  The First Flight was  won by Jennifer and Mike Barnett and Greg and Janell Jennings.  Second in that flight was Dan Luther, Susan Baltz, Joe Sanchez, and Kristen Wilson.  In the Second Flight Bill and Sue Cline along with Travis Holdeman and Gail Melban were victorious, followed by Kyle and Karolyn Farmer and Dick Archer and Laurie Hollingsworth.   Thanks to all who played this year!!  Our next event will be the Roadrunner Men’s Invitational on July 12, 13 and 14.  Please give us a ring if you want to sign up!!!

This past month we also hosted the Ladies Chaparral Partnership.  We had 24 two lady teams participate, the same amount as last year.   The Championship Flight was won by Carol Nevins and Laurie Walker.   Second place went to Jane Jones and Ann Dunavin, while Kris Reed and Ronna Hopson rounded out the top 3.  In the First Flight, top honors went to Gail Melban and Judy Rice, second was Susan Baltz and Kathy Gowdy, and third was won by Chrystal Cross and Tracy Dickson.  The Second Flight saw Jill Remy and Morgan Carrio take the top spot, followed by our own CCC teams of Kim Lackey and Deanna Sowers, with Regina Dinga and Laurie Hollingsworth in third.  Thanks to all the Ladies who participated and to the Ladies Auxiliary who make it such a great event and take lots of pressure off of the golf shop staff.   We appreciate all your hard work!! 

As always, if you need something from the shop and you don’t see it in here, let us know and we can get it for you.  And please remember that as a CCC member you get 10% off your purchase all the time, so I can beat most anyones prices on any product!!!  Stop by and see if there is something you just have to have in your golf bag!!

Princess Clement has hurt her back, but will continue her work remodeling the ladies lounge when she is able to do so. We all need to thank her for the painting in the bathroom and the decorations for the Ladies Chaparral Tournament, which was helf 8th & 9th of June.  There were 24 teams, which was the same number as last year.  Pat Boatwright donated watermelon for the Saturday evening meal, and Bob and Debbie Lang donated free assorted drinks, as well as manning the drink cart.  Lynn Johnston took pictures of the golfers, and they are posted on the Club Web/Facebook site.  We need to all make sure and thank these people for their contributions.

Deanna will take care of the Ladies Auxiliary information to be included on the CCC Web site and Facebook page.  Changes in your phone number, e-mail address, address, etc. should be sent to her.

The Hi Plains Ladies Golf Association held their June tournament at CCC.  Over 59 ladies attended.  CCC was able to accumulate 4 points, thanks to Debbie Lang, Marsha Kirk and Sue Herring.  The next Ladies High Plains Association playday will be on July 10th at Dimmitt.  Kay Reynolds is responsible for taking the names of CCC members who would like to play, and she will need to be contacted by noon Monday, July 8.

The Club 4th of July will be celebrated with a 4-person scrambles tournament to beginning at 1:00 on Thursday.  Both Club Members and guests are encouraged to participate.  A meal will not be furnished Thursday.  A fireworks display will be on the evening of the 5th following the Friday night scrambles.  Teresa will provide her usual meal after the scrambles and before the fireworks show.

June 2013

From the President

Hope this finds everyone ready for a fun filled summer of golf swimming and vacationing.  I know that the warmer weather has me wanting to play more golf.  I don’t have much to report this month, but I want to thank everyone who has been working hard to get the course and pool ready for summer.  Special thanks go out to Clarence Vaughn and Chad Pernell for their hard work on the pool.  Bob Lang has been working hard to upgrade our carts and Eddie Clements has done an excellent job getting us set up on Facebook.  If you have not seen our Facebook page, go online and check it out.

We were able to fix a few of our potholes the week. Thanks to Clarence, Brito, Eddie and Johnny for aking care of that for us.  Maybe the trip down Chaparral will not be quite as bone jarring now.

Remember that Friday Night Scrambles are going on and this is a great way to meet fellow members and have a good time.

May 2013

From the President
Spring has sprung and it looks like summer is just around the corner. Hope everyone has been enjoying the warmer weather and you all are out getting those yards in shape for the summer. It sounds like we had a great workday on Saturday. Lots of people turned out and tons of work was accomplished by our members. Thanks to those of you who were able to be there, sorry I was not able to be at this one, but I’ll try to make up for it this week by fixing some of our potholes. I have heard from quite a few of you regarding the condition of the road. I know this is a major concern and the board is discussing possible remedies. Road repair and maintenance is a very expense proposition, so be patient.
The Adios tournament and the night scramble were both a big success. The Adios was completely full and had a waiting list!!! That’s great! Let’s continue to support the club tournaments.

Well, it took almost two years to get all the kinks worked out, but we closed on the land deal this month. We have sold the 43 acres on top to Ty Roberts. Ty is developing lots and the development is to be called The Cliffs at Canyon Country Club. This should be a great development and should enhance our membership. If you are looking for a great place to build a home, give Ty a call to see about purchasing a lot!!

Again I would like to remind everyone to tell your friends that we have memberships available for the pool during the summer months. We had a great response to that membership last year and it really helps pay for expenses incurred on maintenance of the pool. Plans to expand the hours of the pool have been put in place.

Remember that Friday Night Scrambles are going on and this is a great way to meet fellow members and have a good time.

From the Pro
Hello to all. In last month’s newsletter I said it looked like the warm weather was finally here. Now as I sit here typing this letter, the temperature is 30 degrees, the wind is blowing about 20 mph, and there is not a soul at the club today!! I don’t know if I am in North Texas or North Dakota!! Geez, hopefully we can get to some warm weather that actually stays around!! Haha.

Well we had an excellent turnout for the Adios 3 Person Scramble. We had a full field for the event, 36 teams of 3. That makes 2 events in a row where we are full with a waiting list for players. Hopefully we can keep up this pace for our tournaments. I think the club is becoming more and more popular, and I look forward to a busy golf season here. Speaking of the Adios many of our members were winners in the event. In the 1st flight, Steve Rogers, Mason Rogers, and Travis David took second place. In the 2nd flight, Jim Giacomazzzi, Clarence Vaughn, and Johnny Vaughn also took second place. In the 4th flight, Bob Lang, Debbie Lang, and Travis Loe took first place, and in the 5th flight, Pete Clay, Bill Mays, and Nikki Velarde were first with Keith Dollar, Cody Dollar and J.R. Coffee taking second place. Congrats to all our winning member teams!!  Also a big congrats goes out to Larry Maxwell who on Sunday had his second lifetime hole in one on the 14th hole using his trusty 8 iron!!

The next event we have at the club will be the Grandmothers Tournament on May 2nd, followed by the 2 Man Senior Partnership on the 18th and 19th. The Friday Night Scrambles are in full swing, so remember to get signed up for these fun events.

In the golf shop, I have more clubs in stock than ever. Stop on by and see if there is something you need for this season. Hopefully I will have what you need, but if I don’t I can always order it for you. Also remember that as a member you get 10% off any purchase in the shop. I have some clothing on order and hopefully that will be arriving soon also so stop on by and find something you can’t live without!! Hope to see all of you at your club very soon!!

April 2013

From the President
Hope this newsletter finds everyone doing well and looking forward to spring and warmer weather as much as I am. We have had several warm days and lots of play on the course. We really need it due to the many days of poor weather in January and February. I look for it to be a great spring with lots of rain!

Coming into spring and grass growing season is a good time to remind everyone to stay on the cart paths as much as possible so we do less damage to the grass. Also everyone needs to remember that we need to make sure we double up on carts in order to save wear and tear to our fleet. Mikel and Javier are doing a great job on the course but we need to help all we can to make our course one of the very best around.

I would like to remind everyone to tell your friends that we have memberships available for the pool during the summer months. We had a great response to that membership last year and it really helps pay for expenses incurred on maintenance of the pool. Plans to expand the hours of the pool are being discussed and will be available soon.

Remember that Friday Night Scrambles start soon and this is a great way to meet fellow members and have a good time competing no matter how good you are. Please encourage your fellow members to come down and play. You will enjoy it!!

Travis

From the Pro
Well it looks as if this weather may start cooperating after all. We still have the occasional bad days but there are more playable days than not. Let’s keep our fingers crossed and hope that the warm stuff finally decides to stay around for a while!!

Well myself and Mikel did ok in the Mikel’s Revenge/Beat the Pro game. We had one of those days where everything we looked at went in. Due to the fact that we won all our bets, I decided to go ahead and make every player a winner anyways. So everyone who played ended up getting 25% more than they bet back. I thought that was only fair!!
The rating teams were out from the Texas Golf Association in the past two weeks. The course was re-rated and we should have our new ratings in place here shortly. They told me it takes about 3 weeks to get the new ratings, so look for those by the middle of April at the latest.

Remember that we have the Adios 3 person scramble coming up on April 13th and 14th. This tournament is starting to fill up pretty quickly, so if you want to play please remember to call the golf shop and get your team signed up. The sooner the better on these deals!!

New things have arrived in the shop and new stuff is showing up all the time, so stop on by and let us help you find some new toys for your golf bag!! And remember that if you don’t see something you want we can always order it for you. Hope to see you all around your club soon!!

February 2013

From the President
Well the first month in the New Year is already at an end. I hope that all of you had a great 2012 and are looking forward to lots of golf in 2013! We had a good turn-out for the 2013 Stockholders Meeting on the 21st. We really missed all the members who could not make it. I would like to sincerely thank Charles McClure, Trish Giocamazzi and David Stephenson for their hard work over the last year. New board members elected were Bob Lang, Roger Senter and Chad Pernell. Be sure to talk to any board member when you have a concern (or even a compliment).

I am sorry to report that Janice Price has resigned from the board. The board will be looking for a replacement over the next few weeks. Many Thanks to Janice for all you have done for the club.

The main well on the course has been replaced and will be in operation soon. Please pray for rain so that we don’t have to use it quite as much this year. We hope to have a couple of work days this year and I hope you can all find some time to lend a hand with special projects to spruce up the course. I would like to ask everyone to stay on the cart paths as much as possible to help protect the grass in the fairways and rough. This time of year the grass really takes a beating, please help us out as much as possible.

The Polar Bear Tournament is coming up soon and is filling fast. Call Tim if you are interested in playing, we need a full field for this one!
Hope everyone can come down and play as the weather permits.

Travis

From the Pro
Greetings to all!! Well we finally got a reprieve from the weeks of ice cold weather and actually have gotten some play at the course recently. It’s about time!! Hopefully the warmth will continue and we can have a steady flow of players on the course. Lets keep our fingers crossed that the warm weather is here to stay!!

Well there were no events to talk about last month, but we do have the Polar Bear scramble set for the 2nd and 3rd of February. Looking at the long range forecast, it appears as though we are in for some decent temperatures that weekend. Hope it’s correct!! Haha. I will post the results in next months newsletter for you all to see.

While on the subject of play at the course, I have a favor to ask all of you. When we have these 70 degree days in the middle of a cold snap, everybody has the same idea…to get out and play some golf. It would be a tremendous help if instead of just showing up and assuming you can walk right out and play, could you please call us at the golf shop and set up a tee time?? It helps us to have an idea of what to expect for the day, and it will help you by knowing what time you are scheduled for. When you simply show up it may take us 30 minutes or more to be able to find a slot for you to fit in. I hate to have you waiting for a long time when it can be taken care of with a phone call. Thanks very much for your help in this matter!!

Not much else to report on as of now. Lets hope for the warm temps to stay around for a while, and hope to see you all at your club very soon!!

January 2013

From the President
Another Christmas has come and gone. Hope everyone had a great time and got all the toys you wanted. I know a few members who were probably on the naughty side of Santa’s list and they most likely missed out on the presents. Once again the weather has been nice and many of you have been able to get out and play a couple of rounds.
Thankfully, we have great news regarding the main well on the course. As you know, the motor had to be pulled and it was determined that it had burned up. The insurance people determined that it had been hit by lightning and are paying for the replacement except for the deductible. This is a big load off the club. We are still watering with the small well and due to the cooler weather, have been able to keep everything in pretty good shape.
The Christmas party was a great success and everyone seemed to have a real good time. Thanks to Teresa for the excellent meal and to Janice for all the planning.

Hope everyone can come down and play as the weather permits. Also start planning for the Stockholders meeting on January 21st. We need everyone to be there! Hope everyone has a wonderful New Year!!

Travis

From the Pro
Well December 21st came and went and the end of the world was avoided once again!! Haha. I hope you all had a very Merry Christmas and have a wonderful New Year!!! With the cold weather and some snow even, there has not been a whole lot going on around your club. Play has been extremely slow this past month, and unfortunately we have not had the best of golf weather. But hopefully all that will change and we can get some play going on over here!!

As of this writing, the Polar Bear tournament is set for February 2nd and 3rd of 2013. Cant believe it’s already 2013, wow!! If you want to get yourself and your partner signed up for this, either stop by the golf shop or give us a ring and we will put you in. As always, play will be 2 person teams for this 2 day scramble. Hopefully we have lots of teams sign up for it this year!!

I will be extending my Christmas Sale pricing on merchandise through January. If there is something you need or want to get for someone please stop on by the shop. If I don’t have what you’re looking for, remember I can always order it up for you!! Lets all keep our fingers crossed for a great upcoming year here at the club. Come on by and play some golf once it warms up. Looking forward to seeing you all very soon!!
