June 2012

From the President
Hope everyone is having a great start to Summer!

The pool is open and looks great, hope everyone can come down and enjoy a refreshing dip. A new deck was built over the old kiddy pool and it looks great. Thanks to Albert and Letha Key for donating the deck cover and to Clarence and Johnny Vaughn for building it!

We have been having a good number of green fee players that are really helping our financial situation, be sure and greet anyone you don’t recognize and invite them to become a member.

We are in the process of cutting a water control ditch to the right of #3. Please be patient as we finish up this project. It should really help out the erosion problems in the fairway.

Hope you all have a great June!

From the Pro
Hello to all and here comes summer!! The weather is starting to get hot, and the course is in excellent shape right now. We had the Bucks and Does tournament and also the Ladies Guest Day event this past month. We had a decent turnout for both events, although we would like to see more participation from the members, so remember to get signed up and come and play!! We also have the Friday night scrambles every Friday at 6:00 shotgun. These are always a fun deal, and it seems participation has been down for these events, so again make plans to come and play!! While on the subject of tournaments, we have the Double Couples coming up this June on the 23rd and 24th. We are currently taking sign ups in the shop, give us a call to get in the event!!

There is something that needs to be addressed as far as tee times are concerned. It seems that when people get signed up for tee times, many tend to show up “somewhere” around the time of their tee time. This is causing all sorts of issues in the shop which reflect on the ability to get out and play at your assigned time. If for instance you set up a tee time at 10:32, that means that you need to be on the course and teeing off at that specific tee time. When you show up 5 or 10 minutes late for your assigned time, it throws off the entire tee sheet for the rest of the day. Even if you show up at a time when it does not look busy, that doesn’t mean we are not busy later in the day. PLEASE make every effort to be available to go to the tee box at your assigned time. Also, we seem to be much busier this summer, especially with Amarillo CC closed down, and we are seeing more rounds at the course. If you want to play, again, PLEASE set up a tee time to come out and play. Just showing up and wanting to play, especially on the weekends, is not a good idea. You may have a 2 or 3 hour wait to get on the course, and we don’t want you to have to wait all day to play golf. We will do our best in the shop to get you on the course, but sometimes our hands are tied and there is nothing we can do. So set up a time, and that way you are assured of being able to play your golf course!! 

Hope to see you all out at your club very soon. Remember that if there is something you want and I don’t have it in the shop, I can most likely get it ordered for you. And as Canyon CC members, you will receive 10% off any purchase you make!!

April 28th was work day at the Club, we want to thank all ladies that helped. We cleaned out and replaced flowers in the pots on the patio, and cleaned up flower beds around the course. #6 flower bed was planted with various types of sages and other deer resistant bushes. So far the deer have everything alone.

Women's Working Wednesday Play

Women's Working Wednesday Play Day is in full swing. There is a different game every Wednesday and winner/s proclaimed that night. Please call the golf shop by 4:00 to sign up and play begins at 6:00. Be sure to tell the Pro Shop staff if you are planning to eat.

Grandmothers Tournment

The annual Ladies Auxiliary Grandmother's Tournment ("Grandmothers and More") is planned for June 7th. This year's tournment will be the first year that you do not have to be a Grandmother, but you do have to be at least 50 years of age. So you have two ways to be eligible, (1) you are a Grandmother or (2) you are 50 or older. Format is individual play, cost $50 (includes breakfast, lunch, 1 mulligan, and cart), starts at 9:00am. Please call Pro Shop staff at 499-3397 to sign up.
