July 2014

From the GM

Hello to Everyone,

What a great summer we are having with the cool temperatures and all the rain. Just a few reminders for July, we are having a 4th of July member/guest scramble this coming Friday. This is a tee time tournament so call the golf shop and reserve a time today! After the tournament we will have food and fireworks so invite your friends and family to partake in the fun. If you would like to donate to the firework fund you may do so the day of, or any time in the Pro Shop.  Friday July 11th we are hosting a benefit tournament for Caleb Hudson, it’s a 4 person scramble starting at 8:30 please call the golf shop if you would like to participate.  I would like to thank everyone who helped make the lady’s Chaparral such a success, and to all the ladies who played. The men’s Roadrunner is July 26th and 27th; we are now taking teams sign up in the pro shop today.

Ladies Auxiliary

Wednesday Night Working Women are still gathering around 5:30 or 5:45, to tee off at 6:00pm.  Anyone is welcome to play.  Auxiliary members are still needed; you don’t have to play golf.  Membership dues are $21 for golfers (if you want to be eligible for the hole-in-one money) and $20 for non-golfers.  Meetings are held the 2nd Wednesday of the month immediately following golf plays.

Several of our ladies (Debbie Lang, Marsha Kirk, and Sue Herring) placed in the Grandmother & Ladies Over 50 tournament held @ our country club June 5th.  Our next tournament will be the Annual Chaparral Partnership June 28th & 29th.  Format is low ball Saturday and a scramble Sunday.

Some ladies are still trying to gather to play golf on Thursday mornings.  Most of us have/are playing tournaments; this past Thursday (June 19th) at Ross Rogers and next Wednesday and Thursday June 26th and 27th. at Tascosa.  But we will try to resume play on Thursday July 3, if anyone is in town, and wants to play. We start showing up around 8:00am, drinking coffee and then hitting the tee box @9:00am. If you would be interested in playing, come on down.

August 2014

From the President

Greetings.  I hope you’re having a good summer.  The rain has been a welcome change from the drought we’ve endured for the last several years.  Hopefully it will continue.  It’s taken some pressure off our well and the effort to keep enough groundwater on the course.  Grass always seems to respond better to rain anyway.

While the rain is good and needed, it does create some problems for the club and the course.  Our staff has worked hard to keep the parking lot area clean after these rains.  They’ve also worked on fairway number 3 by removing soil and installing compost and seed.  Hopefully this will work.  We have other areas on the course they plan to address in the future.  We may need to be more aggressive with reducing/controlling/diverting runoff so that we can maintain grass in these areas.

This past month we discovered that our water supply system did not meet all of TCEQ’s requirements for a public water supply.  We are in the process of making those changes and getting an approved permit from the State.

We’ve also had to replace our pool heater that we’ve had about 10 years.  The new heater will be installed shortly and the water temperature should be back to normal.

Thanks to the staff and everyone who helped on our July 4th get-together.  My family had a great time and I know others did as well.

Blessings,

Chad

Auxiliary members met July 2nd and went out to meet new residents who have moved into the Club and surrounding area.  They welcomed the new people and invited them to join and become active in the Canyon Country Club.  A special invitation was extended to come and enjoy the CCC 4th of July celebration Hope everyone enjoyed the hamburgers, hot dogs and fireworks, couldn’t ask for a better night.

The Chaparral Ladies Tournament was held June 28th and 29th, 20% of the proceeds from the tournament were donated to local charities.  CCC had several ladies that placed in two flights:  Debbie Lang and Debbie Neufeld won 1st in the 1st Flight, while Marsha Kirk and Karolyn Farmer placed 2nd.  Kim Davis and Sue Herring won 1st in the 2nd Flight, while Laurie Hollingsworth and Regina Dinga won 3rd.  Carpet Tech volunteered to handle the putting tournament on Saturday evening after play.  Bob Lang once again provided free drinks and drove the beverage cart Saturday during play.
