June 2014

From the President

Finally some rain!  It’s been a while since we’ve had any meaningful precipitation and more is in the forecast for the next few days.  That’s good news for the golf course.  NOAA has increased the odds of El Nino (wetter and cooler weather for Texas) conditions occurring, so hopefully there’s a lot more to come this year.

By the time you read this, the pool will have opened, so I hope you come out and enjoy it this summer.  If you have party plans, contact Courtney or Billy so they can put you on the books.

I want to say thanks to everyone who helped at our Spring work day.  I know most of you have been doing this for a long time.  I’ve never seen a membership so invested in its club and that’s what makes Canyon Country Club special.  Thank you to the Ladies Auxiliary for the new counter in the pro shop.  It looks very nice and professional.

Blessings,
Chad

From the GM

Hope this finds everyone ready for a fun filled summer of golf swimming and vacationing.  I know that the warmer weather has me wanting to play more golf.  I want to thank everyone who has been working hard to get the course and pool ready for summer.

Remember that Friday Night Scrambles are going on and this is a great way to meet fellow members and have a good time.

We have a lot going on this month around the club; please take a look at the calendar.

Thank you,
Billy

Ladies Auxiliary

Our Wednesday Night Working Women’s golf is in full swing.  The ladies start gathering around 5:30 or 5:45, with tee off at 6:00pm.  Anyone wanting to play is welcome. We still need auxiliary members.  Membership dues are $21 for golfers (if you want to be eligible for the hole-in-one money) and $20 for non-golfers.  Meetings are held the 2nd Wednesday of the month immediately following golf play.

The Canyon Country Club hosted the High Plains Ladies Golf Association May 14th.  We had 56 ladies tee off @ 9:30am.  Our ladies, Debbie Lang, Sally Tucker, Marsha Kirk, Wilma Higginbotham, Karolyn Farmer, Sue Herring, and Kay Reynolds were able to accumulate 7 points (the most points scored by any club) for CCC.  Debbie was medalist of the field with a score of 85.  She also had the lowest number of putts in the 3rd flight. Sally had low net in the 2nd flight with a score of 82 and lowest putts in 2nd flight.  Kay had low gross in 3rd flight with a 94 and Marsha had low net with a score of 76.  Sue tied for low net in the 4th flight with a score of 82. Membership is still $15.00, and monthly costs are $40.00 each time you play. This covers carts, lunch, etc. If you would like to play or need more information, contact Kay Reynolds at 499-3310.

Several ladies have been gathering to play golf on Thursday mornings.  After golf some stay for lunch (chicken fried steak day). We start showing up around 8:00am, drinking coffee and then hitting the tee box @9:00am. If you would be interested in playing, head on down to the club.

Our next ladies' tournament (Grandmother & Ladies Over 50) is scheduled for June 5th.  Format is individual play, shotgun start @9:00am.  Cost is $60.
